I’m Katrien Curvers, PhD, founder of Scriptical Editing.
I specialize in strategic editing for life science researchers preparing manuscripts for international scientific journals. My goal is to help you communicate your work with clarity, accuracy, and impact, so that reviewers and readers alike understand the significance of your discoveries.
Helping you succeed is the most rewarding part of my work. Few things are more satisfying to me than seeing a manuscript evolve into a clear, compelling representation of years of research effort, and knowing that my work can make a real difference.
My scientific background
Before becoming an editor, I spent eight years in research. After studying Bioengineering, I completed a PhD specializing in the molecular genetics of plant–pathogen interactions. I then conducted postdoctoral research in the field of crop protection. During this time, I published in Q1 journals, giving me first-hand insight into the scientific publishing process and the standards expected during peer review.
This background allows me to approach academic manuscripts with a deep understanding of the scientific reasoning behind them.
Why I became an editor
After years in research, I realized that I enjoyed connecting ideas and communicating complex science more than spending long hours on repetitive work at the bench. Editing became the perfect intersection of my scientific expertise and my knack for language. Each manuscript brings a new scientific challenge, allowing me to explore different research areas while helping authors directly.
I genuinely enjoy untangling complex sentences, strengthening scientific narratives, and finding ways to make important discoveries stand out.
My mission with Scriptical Editing
Over more than 12 years of professional editing, I noticed a gap between the editorial support researchers were looking for and what was often available. I founded Scriptical Editing to fill that gap because I believe researchers deserve more than surface-level language correction, and editorial quality and integrity should be the norm, not an exception.
A manuscript is the culmination of months, often years, of dedicated effort. It deserves deep engagement, careful editorial judgement, and attention to the details that can influence how effectively the work is received.
